Re-railing of freight trains

In rail transport, a derailment can occur due to a defect in the railway infrastructure or rolling stock.

A derailment can lead to a (temporary) disruption of the smooth functioning of the railway system, posing not only a potential danger but also costing the carrier valuable time and money.

A derailment may result from a collision with another object, a malfunctioning or defective switch, an operational error (such as excessive speed through a curve), a mechanical defect in the track (such as a broken rail), or a mechanical defect in the rolling stock (such as wheel damage or a malfunctioning braking system).

When a freight train (locomotive or wagon) derails, RSN's re-railing specialists can be called upon to safely and swiftly return the derailed equipment to the track. We mobilize to the site as quickly as possible with the necessary equipment and assess the best method to re-rail the train.

Based on preliminary photographs, we can also determine which re-railing tools (light version or heavier equipment) should be brought, allowing us to save time.

A skilled and well-equipped re-railing team

Depending on the weight of the equipment and the accessibility of the tracks, we can implement the re-railing strategy using various types of equipment. Our team is proficient in different techniques to perform the task correctly and safely, including the use of jacks, re-railing beams, cranes or lorries.

We deploy our truck with a hydraulic crane or use our re-railing kit with hydraulic cylinders to return the wagon or locomotive to the track.

Our re-railing team handles all on-site coordination. We possess extensive knowledge and skills, including a team specializing in hazardous material wagons (such as tank wagons).

For heavier or more complex lifting operations, we collaborate with a network of other partners as needed.
